How to Braid Hair Different Styles of Braiding

Step by Step

In here are different types braids I have on my website. I have always had long hair, and braiding your hair keeps it out of your way, and also looks stylish. These pictures are from a little booklet I found long ago called "Pocahontas."

You can create a fancy braid or a simple braid. But the first thing you need to do is learn how to braid! There are Step by Step Instructions with pictures on all of these pages.

Basic Braid - Below is your basic 3 strand braid. Very easy to learn. I use this one all the time.

Fishtail Braid - The Fishtail braid turns out best if you pull hair back into a tight ponytail first.

French Braid - French braids are the coolest!
I was so happy when I learned how to French Braid my own hair!

French Over - A French "Over" braid is similar to the French Braid, but you only braid the front of your hair to the side of your head.

French Rope - A French Rope braid is not so easy to do, because it's a combination of a French Braid and a Rope Braid.

Princess Ann Braid - The Princess Ann Braid is a fancy braid, that incorporates a combination of two French Braids, and finishs with a Basic three strand braid.

Rope Braid - I really like the Rope braid. But it works best if you start with a ponytail and damp hair. Great for fixing your hair once you leave a swimming pool.
